How To Marry With Ghc 5000 or Less In Ghana

Getting married is an important event in one’s life. In Ghana, marriage often comes with a hefty price tag. How much money do you need to marry in Ghana? Depending on who you are and what you want, you can be spending anything from Ghc 10,000 to 50,000 for a modest wedding in Ghana.

However, not everyone has the financial means to host a luxurious wedding. In fact, for many, a modest wedding plan is just too expensive.

To marry with GHC 5,000 or less might sound challenging, but with careful planning, creativity, and resourcefulness, you can create a memorable and meaningful marriage ceremony without breaking the bank. This is going to be a little ranty so if you want to have a talk of the town wedding with all the glitz and glamour then this post might not be for you.

We created this guide to getting married that we believe will help you count the cost and prepare adequately for your wedding and marriage. It’s practically free so get a copy.

This couple managed to do something similar in 2013 with less than Ghc 3000 so it’s possible even though inflation might have caught up there are a few tips that if you follow could help you save tons of money on your wedding.

Planning a simple traditional marriage in Ghana involves several steps. We will be looking at the main areas where people normally spend lots of money and see if we can help cut down the cost. These are the areas by the way;

  • Wedding dress
  • Wedding ring
  • Venue
  • Decorations
  • Photography & Videography
  • Makeup
  • Food

Cut your Cloth

Before we jump into any of the areas, there’s a proverb that says you should cut your coat according to your cloth. It simply means to spend within your means. Don’t fall into the hype and pressure of Instagram to do a glamorous wedding and end up in debt afterwards.

It’s not a smart way to start your life together. Rather, live within your means. If you can’t afford a fancy Ghc 5000 cake make do with a Ghc300 cake. It may even taste better knowing that you saved so much.

Most of the things people stress about and want to spend on don’t really add any value to the marriage. It’s mainly for the guests so check your bank and Momo accounts before you go blow all your life savings within a few hours in the name of a wedding.

To marry with Ghc 5,000 or less in Ghana, whether it’s a traditional marriage, court marriage, or even a wedding, the first and most important thing to do as a couple is to set a realistic budget.

Deciding on the maximum amount you’re willing to spend and allocating funds for each aspect of your marriage, including the venue, attire, catering, decor, and other essentials. Remember, a modest budget doesn’t mean sacrificing the quality of your celebration; it’s about being resourceful and creative.

Saving on the Wedding Dress

Getting an outfit for your marriage ceremony can be one of the most expensive and confusing aspects for couples. Instead of buying designer outfits, consider renting or buying second-hand dresses and suits. You can find elegant options at a fraction of the cost.

Also, explore local tailors who can create custom attire within your budget. In our opinion, I think the suit that the groom wears can be a good suit since he will wear it even after the ceremony.

The bride’s traditional wear can also be worn after so it makes some financial sense to invest in quality at a good price but spending in excess of Ghc 6000 on a wedding gown that is going to be worn for a few hours and then never worn again feels like a huge waste.

Rent a gown if you can or borrow a friend’s expensive gown that she will never use again. No one really cares where you got the gown from anyway. Just make sure you rock it like a queen.

Saving on the Wedding Ring

The ring is an eternal sign of your love for each other. It has no beginning and no end. But some of them have a very heavy price on them.

When it comes to rings, it’s another one of those things that people don’t really care what ring you are wearing apart from you. Get a ring that is within your budget and fits properly. You can go the custom route or the already-made rings that you can buy online.

Only jewellers with trained eyes can identify an authentic gold or silver ring. Most rings are gold coated anyway so just go with what looks nice and is comfortable. You can get a ring in Ghana for around Ghc 300-500.

Saving on the Venue

I’m sure if some people had their way they would have their wedding on the moon. But thankfully we are not there yet. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to know that you will be paying a fortune to have a venue like the Kempinski Hotel.

Stick within your means or if you are a faithful Christian you can do your wedding in Church. Church wedding venues are normally free so you don’t have to pay extra for a venue. If any of the bride or groom have a large and nice compound with a garden then you could even have it there.

Ask your favourite rich uncle or auntie if you can use their mansion for your wedding reception or ceremony. If you don’t have any rich uncle or aunty then you can use your heavenly Father’s house.

Decorations

Listen and listen well. No one remembers the decor at a wedding. Keep your decor simple and don’t overdo it. Less is more anyway.

Take advantage of printing a design on a large flexy material as your backdrop, get a few flowers where it matters most and voila, you have a nice-looking venue. If you are doing it in a Church then you may not have to do so much when it comes to decor.

Use the colours you like and get an affordable decorator to enhance your space for the wedding. It’s only going to last a few hours anyway so why spend so much on it? Look good but within budget.

Photography and Videography

This one is dicey because the equipment and the human resources are vital and expensive if you want quality. To save cost here, you can work with a friend who is into photography or video production.

Let them take great pictures and make sure you give them quality treatment at the wedding so they feel acknowledged. Photos and videos stand the test of time so it is important to get quality.

You can also take the risk of working with a novice who needs experience more than money. Let that person know exactly what you are looking for and he might shock you in a good way. You can also take many other pictures during your married life so keep it within budget.

Makeup

Ladies, better get a friend who can do a decent job and negotiate a good amount or learn how to do it yourself to save some cost.

Let the person use your own make-up kit that you bought which you can use again in the future. That way, you are being frugal and getting the best value for the makeup.

Food

The biggest cost in most wedding budgets is the food. Well here is a simple way to save on food. Invite fewer people.

You can do the wedding in a small space like your Pastor’s office so you do not have to invite so many people. Invite the people that matter and get some great food that everyone can enjoy. If you have a caterer in the family all the better.

Food can be up to 50% of the wedding budget so it is always advisable to keep the meals minimal yet classy.

People shouldn’t be coming to weddings to get full and drunk. If they want more food they can go and get some after the wedding.

We hope this has been helpful and has given you some ideas to save money for your wedding. We believe in spending money where it matters like where you will stay after your wedding and your honeymoon. To help make things easier for you. We have put together a wedding shop that can help you get vendors at a good price.

Watch how this couple got married in 2013 with almost nothing. The only thing they paid for was their dresses and rings.

To marry with Ghc 5,000 or less in Ghana can be possible and achievable in today’s generation. By setting a realistic budget and prioritising what matters most to you and your partner, you can create a memorable and intimate wedding celebration for your marriage.
